Yorkshire Swan Rescue Hospital is run by several volunteers, working together we aim to rescue, rehabilitate and release as many swans and water birds as we can. Here are the people who enable us to do so…

Dan and Joe

Dan and Joe founded YSRH in early 2006 after spending several years in the midlands rescuing swans and other animals. The organisation they previously set up and ran was Hereford and Worcester Swan Aid which last year handled over 600 swans around the Midlands and Mid Wales. Both have spent most of their life campaigning on behalf of animals and rescuing sick, injured and abandoned animals. Dan and Joe do all of the administration for the charity as well as take responsibility for the day to day care of the birds. They also go out on rescues, fundraising events and take the birds into the vet.

Annabel

Annabel has had a life long passion for wildlife and animals. She has spent many years campaigning against animal cruelty and the destruction of the environment. Annabel has kindly allowed YSRH to use some of her buildings and land as a base for the charity and a place to rehabilitate swans and other wildlife.
Annabel also helps with the day to day care of the swans.

Johanna Storm MRCVS

Johanna’s progressive, open and compassionate approach to veterinary medicine makes her the ideal vet for YSRH. Johanna is a specialist avian and exotic species vet and is part of the International Zoological Veterinary Group, working from her avian and exotic restricted surgery in West Yorkshire. Johanna works and provides medication for the swans at cost price which is of great help. Every time we take an animal to Johanna we come away having learned something new. We can not thank her enough for the help she provides to us and the wildlife we take to see her.Johanna is part of the Wildlife Vets International charity which provides veterinary assistance for endangered species across the globe.

Carol and Linda

Linda and Carol are our contacts in the North East. Linda has been rescuing swans for over 10 years and Carol has been working with her for the last year. Together they rescue dozens of swans each month from across the North East of England, many of who come into our care at YSRH.

Lynn and Barbera

Lynne and Barbara help out at YSRH every week with the cleaning out, feeding of the birds, cleaning out of the ponds and many other jobs too numerous to mention! They always make time to come and help out despite having a large number of their own animals to care for.

Julie and Faith

Julie and her daughter Faith have been rescuing swans with us almost since we opened up the rescue centre here at Brandsby. They are based in West Yorkshire and as well as helping out with work at the Hospital every week they montor the swans and numerous locations in West Yorkshire including Fairburn Ings. Julie works at a Veterinary Practice and has done so for the past 20 years and Faith has had a love for swans for most of her life.

Lawrence

Lawrence helps with rescue calls and hands on work with the swans as well as monitoring the swans on the River Ouse in York and reporting any problems to us and responding to rescue calls for the area

Sarah

Sarah is a paramedic and before helping out at YSRH lived and worked for many years at the National Swan Sanctuary in Surrey where she helped rescue hundreds of swans and other animals.

Darren and Sarah

Sarah and Darren have spent years campaigning against animal cruelty and rescuing injured birds. Sarah has an immense passion for ducks and takes care of ducklings abandoned by their families. Add that to Darren’s obsession with canoes and you have the perfect recipe for rescuing water birds! Sarah and Darren go out on rescues and help with fundraising events.
